Over the last few days I’d been hearing “IGTV” around the place a lot, but I didn’t pay any attention because a) I confused it immediate with HGTV, which is an interior design thing and b) because OMG I have so much on my plate at the moment with the new launch that I just couldn’t absorb anything new.

But then I had a think and I realised that it was to do with Instagram, not interiors, so I took a look.

This post is going to date super fast, but in case you hadn’t heard about IGTV yet, it’s the brand new video-sharing platform from Instagram, growing out of their testing of Instagram Stories over the last while. People LOVE video, and Instagram isn’t about to let them all head over to Youtube any more – now you can share video content from 10 minutes – 1 hour on IGTV. Best of all you don’t have to start over with your audience – whoever follows you on Instagram follows you on IGTV as well, so it’s something you can weave into your Insta strategy, rather than something completely new you have to find time to start from scratch with.

The platform really appeals to me. Instagram Stories were never quite my style – I’m talkative and love to chat, and the short story format panics me slightly! A 5 minute breezy video on IGTV is WAY more my pace, and it takes so little effort to brush my hair, stick the phone in a tripod, film, post and DONE. I need to get to grips with covers and integrating my brand identity into my feed, but I don’t want to create any roadblocks or distractions for myself, so for now I’m just getting the videos out there. I’ll finesse it as I go. I find as a business owner that I can invent roadblocks ENDLESSLY – I’ll sit down to send out an email to my list, but then think “Oh, I’d better spend a few hours doing the graphics first” and then the morning is gone, and it’s time to do the school run and the moment has passed. Stop wasting time and just get your message out there. The polish will come with time.
